Board the “El Chepe” train, which connects Chihuahua with the Pacific Ocean. Along the way you’ll pass bridges, tunnels, rivers, waterfalls, cliffs, canyons, and desert plains.The scenery is just breathtaking, which is why this journey is considered one of the world’s most spectacular train rides. To discover more of the Copper Canyon region, you’ll make a few overnight stays before arriving in Los Mochis on the Pacific Coast. Upon arrival in Chihuahua, you will be met by a local representative and transferred to the hotel. In the afternoon you will enjoy a city tour. The historically significant city of Chihuahua is located on the edge of the hot, dry Chihuahua desert. It is one of the most important cities of Northern Mexico in terms of agriculture, livestock, mining, industry, and commerce. Some of the highlights of Chihuahua are the cathedral, the remains of the aqueduct built by Jesuits, astonishing murals found in the Government Palace, and the museum and former home of the revolutionary hero Pancho Villa (closed on Mondays).

Overnight Hotel in Chihuahua
Pick-up at your hotel and transfer to Creel, with on the way a stop at the town of Cuauhtemoc (visit not available on Sundays). Upon arriving in Cuauhtemoc, we will take you to the famous fields of the Mennonites, a Christian community with European roots that settled down in Mexico in the twenties. From the moment you enter the village through the dirt road, you will feel as if time has stopped, with its arable lands, austere houses and an ambiance free of modern sophistication. Visit the Mennonite Museum, where you can observe several objects donated by the Mennonite colonies, as well as photographs, furniture, and toys that belonged to the first settlers that arrived in Chihuahua at the beginning of the 20th century. To complete your tour, you will have the opportunity of enjoying a light meal based on delicious cheese and cold meats produced by the Mennonites. Next, arrival in the magical town of Creel. Creel has a great number of natural attractions in its surroundings. Mother Nature has blessed the town with gigantic rock formations, romantic lakes, endless forests and spellbinding waterfalls. It is also the starting (or ending) point of the mystical world of the Tarahumara. In the afternoon we visit the “Mushroom Valley”, Arareko lake,located about 7 km from Creel, a Tarahumara cave and the Jesuit mission of San Ignacio. Rest of the afternoon free to explore more of the picturesque village of Creel. You can visit, for example, the arts and crafts museum, located at the old railroad station, with an excellent exposition of the Tarahumara culture.

Overnight at Hotel in Creel
In the morning, pick-up at your hotel for a transfer to Divisadero, located on the high rim of the Urique Canyon, forming part of the Copper Canyon. This canyon system is larger and deeper than the Grand Canyon in the United States! Divisadero is probably the most impressive views of the Copper Canyon. We will have a short stop here, to have a walk around and to take some great pictures.Then continue to arrive at Posada Barrancas, where you are transferred to your hotel. After check in at the hotel, you will have another encounter with the majestic Canyon while you enjoy your lunch at the hotel restaurant. The view from your hotel, above the silver thread of the Urique river, is breathtaking. Trails head out from this point up and down the canyon walls. In addition to the newly developed walking trails, leading to the bottom of the canyon and the river, there are many ancient Indian trails which still serve as the only transportation network in this vast region. Join a guided walking tour along the rim (please check schedules at the reception, they will provide this tour) and enjoy the sunset from the hotel balconies during dinner.

In the early morning, you will be free to continue exploring the beauty of the landscapes of the Canyon. Go for a little hike, or visit a nearby Adventure Park. Various optional activities are available for those who are into adventure (for example, aerial tram or zip-lines) or simply want to enjoy some astonishing views. Alternatively, go shopping for some unique Tarahumara crafts. At noon, transfer to the train station to board “El Chepe”, the famous train that connects Chihuahua with the Pacific Ocean (please note: train departures only available on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays). This journey is considered one of the world ́s most spectacular train rides, and it ́s the best way to discover the majestic Copper Canyon. By train, we will travel to the colonial town of El Fuerte. The most scenic portion of the trip will be between Bauichivo and Temoris, with impressive canyons, cliffs, waterfalls, and a great number of spectacular bridges and tunnels. Upon arrival in El Fuerte (around 7 pm), a transfer from the train station to your hotel.

Depending on your flight schedule, you may explore more of El Fuerte. The history of El Fuerte goes back 5 centuries. El Fuerte used to be an important trading post for gold and silver miners. It is now certainly one of the most beautiful colonial towns in the Northwest of Mexico. Have a stroll around the colonial streets of this magical town and visit the fortress, from where you can enjoy nice views. Take a boat tour over the River El Fuerte (optional, not included) and watch various bird species as well as exotic vegetation. Listen to the sounds of the river, watch local fishermen do their daily routine, and try some local specialties. Also, visit the local market where you can taste some local products. At the proper time, transfer from hotel to Los Mochis Airport.
